Founding a beverage company during the era of Economic Reform was a risky choice. Investment costs for production lines and labor were difficult. Besides that, outlet for outputs was also not very promising when soft drinks at that time were still considered “luxury” goods for most people, especially in rural areas. Perhaps only a few people could imagine the future growth of the industry, contributing about 60,000 billion VND to the national budget. 

Ms. Chu Thi Van Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Beer – Alcohol – Beverage Association (VBA), commented that the beverage industry in general and soft drinks in particular are holding an important position, closely linked to the lives of Vietnamese people. Besides serving the domestic market, the industry also exports, creating competitiveness in the context of economic integration.

In addition, the impact of climate change makes the situation increasingly alarming. The consequences not only affect crops and raw materials for businesses but also people’s lives.

The image of people in the southwest of Vietnam lining up to get fresh water for daily use due to the prolonged drought and saline intrusion is still clearly visible. Or the flood caused by Typhoon Yagi that swept away trees, houses and lives, leaving many voids in the souls and haunting so memories of the people across the country. 

In the face of such difficulties and losses, Tan Hiep Phat is always present with the community. The company has worked with organizations and local authorities to implement the program of bringing “Fresh Water with Compassion” to drought and saline-intrusioned areas, helping tens of thousands of people to lighten their burdens and have more convenient access to and use of clean water. 

Tan Hiep Phat has coordinated with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to donate 10 water filtration projects in 6 provinces in the southwest with a total value of 2.1 billion VND. Recently, 200,000 Number 1 purified water products and 620 cubic meters of fresh water were donated by Tan Hiep Phat in conjunction with government units.

Most recently, the beverage brands supported flood victims with 8,000 boxes of products, including Number 1 Soya Canxi soy milk, Number 1 energy drink, Active salted lemon electrolyte sports drink, with a total value of more than 1.2 billion VND. Each product encapsulates the desire to help people and energize the relief missions, maintain their spirits to champion life. 

In addition to emergency support programs, Tan Hiep Phat has quickly implemented long-term strategies to ensure sustainable development for businesses and society. 10 years ago, the company implemented a project to lighten bottles, reducing the weight of each bottle by nearly 20%. At the same time, thanks to Aseptic technology, the group can reduce electricity, water consumption and waste during the production process. 9 years after implementation, the enterprise eliminated 78,000 tons of plastic waste.

Along with that, a series of other environmental protection activities were born at this enterprise such as recycling and reusing shrink film, plastic bags; replacing cardboard boxes with shrink film made from recycled plastic. Especially from 2021, the group put into operation plastic recycling lines. 

Inspiring, giving hope with love 

It is not difficult to understand why Tan Hiep Phat’s 3-decade journey is not only measured by revenue or profit, but also by efforts to serve society. Meaningful activities for the community continue to extend with each year more than the last. There are also inspirational stories that sow seeds of love, such as the case of Ms. Hoang Thi Diu. At the stage when her career began to flourish for many people, Ms. Diu was forced to quit her job at a general hospital in Dong Hung district (Thai Binh), after 10 years of fighting Kallman syndrome (a genetic disorder that hinders puberty or growth) and impaired sense of smell. Overcoming her inferiority complex, she aspired to contribute her knowledge to life, becoming a free teacher for children in the commune. The “Sowing Seeds” class was born from there, becoming a place to nurture the joy of learning and the spirit of “nothing is impossible”.

Huynh Thanh Thao and the touching story of brittle bone disease 

An unfortunate fate also came to another girl, Huynh Thanh Thao (born in 1986, Lap Thuong commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City) with brittle bone disease. Although she never went to school, Thao studied and wrote on her own, sharing her feelings through articles and stories on the radio. From the awareness of having to live well to make up for her parents’ efforts to take care of her, Thao wanted to contribute to society with the idea of ​​opening a library, where local young people could come to interact and participate in activities. The library opened up a colorful world for the children, and the determined young girl received various worthy awards on her charitable journey. 

They are two of many stories of championing fate that Tan Hiep Phat, in collaboration with Humanitarian Television, chose to inspire the community through the program “Connecting with Love”. The program honors special people with the “nothing is impossible” spirit and extraordinary determination, overcoming adversity to join hands to develop a better society. To date, the program has recognized and honored more than 50 characters with authentic stories that strongly inspire the community. 

After “Connecting with Love” program, Tan Hiep Phat has coordinated and implemented many other activities such as sponsoring 50 orphans due to the Covid-19 pandemic with a total estimated value of more than 13 billion VND in a program “Walking forward with you in life”, awarding thousands of scholarships “Connecting with love – Uplift your steps to school” for disadvantaged students in 4 provinces of Hau Giang, Binh Duong, Quang Nam and Ha Nam. Over the years, the company has also worked with organizations to care for their livelihood, give gifts to children on special occasions and serve families qualified for preferential policies.
